About Us
After 6 years of research and product development CCBerries first opened on February 4th, 2004.
Who is "CC"? Well.. "CC" is not a persons name, it stands for "Chocolate Covered", the owner actually works here daily (or nightly when the web site is being updated)
Over the years we've moved from being a local Marietta Georgia retail shop to a nationwide provider of custom chocolate covered strawberries.
How did it all get started? (a quote from the owner)
"When I was young my mom decided not to make Christmas cookies because she was on a diet, I thought that was an abomination, grabbed the roll out sugar cookie recipe and made as many as I wanted. After that whenever I wanted cookies I'd just make up a batch. A few years after that the doctors discovered I had a food allergy to sugar, so I ended up just eating a few and giving the rest to my little brothers.
After college I took the extra cookies to Volleyball tournaments or work. When I moved out of Florida the weekend volleyball tournaments were not on sand, they were generally held on grass.
Grass fields turn to mud if it rained the night before, and the players end up covered in mud after a days play. I thought it would be funny to see a bunch of mud covered players eating chocolate covered strawberries so I made some up. After that they wanted the berries every week and started bugging me to make them for events. I wasn't playing anymore at that point so I had the time & didn't need to be there at the start of the tournaments. From there it was a natural progression (with a lot of test batches)."
How does CCBerries differ from other companies?(a quote from the owner)
"Better ingredients is the first part, our competitors are
really making it easy since they are using a fake, swizzle dip and now
sometimes even leafless strawberries. Chocolate strawberries are supposed to be
a premium gift, not made as cheaply as possible with second tier ingredients.
The goal is to do them right not cheap.
Next we don�t do baseless surcharges, we�ve seen competitors
charge surcharges on every order. Usually they hit you with several medium size
fees, but they really add up, the closer you get to a major Holiday the larger
the fees, and some don�t show up till after you enter your payment information.
That�s just sleazy, but based on some of the other stunts they have pulled not
unexpected.
But we�re also a tiny company, the first priority is always
to get today�s orders out the door, most people are comfortable placing the
orders online and that�s always fastest. It really saves everyone a lot of time.
Another time saver is handling order changes or problems with the electronic helpdesk
form, it�s a lot faster to research a problem with UPS/FedEx and email someone
back than try to do it with someone on the phone."
Everyone knows fresher is better, and over the years we teamed up with separately owned companies that sold truly fresh flowers and fresh baked cookies. Each of the companies is still owned independently, we trust each other, there is not even a written contract.
What's coming
We've also been working heavily on the R&D side, first creating a way that cores and stuff our new line of cheesecake stuffed strawberries and most recently working on some methods and tools to make home tempering easier.
