Weve been doing this for a long time, please take advantage
of our experience of what happens with FedEx/UPS on the peak delivery days.
We want every shipment to be delivered on time, every
customer to be happy, but with so many people trying to do the exact same thing
on the exact same day things are going to go wrong.
Simple version:
1) Have it delivered early. (Tuesday , Wednesday or
Thursday)
Long version:
1) Using last year as an example: any weather problems in
the days leading to Valentines may cause the carriers to stop picking up
packages. With all the airport closing
they had no way to actually deliver any more packages.
2) Valentines is one of the busiest delivery days of the
year, very susceptible to carrier overload, weather delays and with no spare time to correct errors.
3) This year Valentines is on a Saturday, because Friday
deliveries are cheaper most people will select that day. (the 13th)
4) If UPS/FedEx have a problem on Friday, the next delivery
date at this level of service is Monday.
(too rough for strawberries/flowers to survive)
5) We are suggesting that deliveries be scheduled earlier in
the week to avoid the carrier overload on the 13th & 14th
day and to allow more time for them to
correct the problem if there are weather delays.
Other benefits:
1) Flowers delivered to business address earlier in the week will be enjoyed longer,
lets face it: flowers delivered on Friday may just end up sitting at the office over the
weekend. Having them delivered early gives them a chance to fully open by the Holiday, plus they will have flowers all week..(big extra points for you while others are waiting till Friday).
2) On peak holidays FedEx and UPS tracking goes to hell,
pickup scans are skipped / missing because there are too many records for the
carriers to process. Because of the volume of picked up packages; FedEx/UPS do
not do pickup scans, instead they depend on the first scan at the local station
to be the first scan to show they have the packages. Even with the skipping of the initial scans
the carriers systems cant apply all the scans that come in and they fall
behind in posting the updates and some posts end up getting thrown away . Because
the scans that have not been applied: no one can tell where the packages are,
not us, not the carriers inexperienced phone representatives (who are never
trained for that type of situation and end up giving incorrect results). This
happens with every carrier, every merchant, and almost every major holiday. There is a simple way to avoid this: have the
product delivered early.
3) If there is a weather delay a Friday or Saturday
scheduled delivery both have the same fall back day: Monday.
